A Tiny Heart on a Paper Towel Dispenser
A few months later, I was washing my hands in a restaurant restroom when I noticed a little heart painted onto the side of the paper towel dispenser.
It was just a tiny little thing, but it made me wonder whether it had been left there by one person for another, or if it was just supposed to be a reminder for everyone to love each other.

The tree that started it all
11/21/2011. Otherwise a pretty uneventful day; sunny, clear skies prompted me to take the dogs out for a hike, and at the last minute I grabbed my camera just in case I saw something cool along the way. Little did I know that a random tree alongside the trail would be the beginning of a quest, let alone one that would subtly change the way I looked at the world.
There it was, a birch-type tree like hundreds around it, unassuming in every way except one: where once a branch had been, there now was a perfect heart formed by the tree.

I stood for a moment, mesmorized at how perfectly shaped the heart was, then snapped a couple pictures and went on my way, my mind preoccupied by other thoughts.
